Today, several brands and online retailers are enabling their customers to purchase products using carbon-neutral shipping methods. A few examples are Tamga Designs, CHNGE and MAMOQ, which are not only focusing on making sustainable clothing, but also on offering an alternative, very efficient and innovative worldwide shipment.
Purchasing a product on the Internet through a regular shipping method will indeed involve that item having to be transported by several means, such as plane, boat, train or lorry. As such, the goal of carbon-neutral programs is not to completely eliminate all carbon emissions associated with shipping, as it is impossible in practice, but instead to remove an equal amount of carbon from the atmosphere, which can still be very effective, meaning investing in environmental campaigns of different kinds.
Everyday there are more and more companies interested in going carbon-neutral with their shipping methods, acknowledging their inevitable contribution to climate change. While they aim to pour a portion of their profits back into environmental causes, the first measure that they need to take when deciding to do so is to calculate how much carbon their shipping activities actually generate. Once that is done, it becomes much easier for brands to make a move and be eco-friendly.
At LSA, we calculate our Clients' carbon footprint, among other factors, to better advise them on how to offset their emissions, creating specific action plans afterwards. Partnering with eco-influencers may also be an important move to help promoting this practice and encouraging consumers to support the company.
